Information About

Dasam Granth

From 1892 to 1897 , scholars assembled at the Akal Takht , Amritsar , to study the various printed Dasam Granths and prepare the authoritative version. They concluded that the Dasam Granth was entirely the work of Guru Gobind Singh. Further re-examinations and reviews took place in 1931 , under the ageis of the Darbar Sahib Committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee they too vindicated the earlier conclusion and its findings have since been published.

On 20 February , 2000 , at Gobind Sadan, Virsa Singh released the first complete Punjabi translation of the writings of Guru Gobind Singh, plus other scholarly works about the life and teachings of Guru Gobind Singh.

The reason teachings of Guru Gobind Singh was not included in Guru Granth Sahib, the main holy book of Sikh religion, it was a rule and tradition that only the successing guru will add teaching of his predecessor in the Guru Granth Sahib. Since Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth and Final Living Guru of Sikh religion no one else had the right or authority to add his teachings in Guru Granth Sahib. Instead his teachings were preserved in a seperate Book Called Dasam Granth.

Gurbani such as 'Chandi Di Var' were recited from the Dasam Granth before major Battle s to bolster the Sikh Warrior s with inspired courage.
