Information About

Dartmouth Mall

HISTORY

The facility was constructed from 1969 to 1971 on the site of the 9-Hole Golf Course Paskamansett Links . The town of North Dartmouth had zoned all of the land on Route 6 for commercial development, and the North Dartmouth Mall was the first large-scale retail facility constructed along the route.

It was the second indoor shopping facility constructed in Southeastern Massachusetts.

When the mall opened, it featured a 3-screen cinema, and 72 stores, including nine restuarants.

The mall has had three major renovations, including one in 1987 and most recently in 1999. Both renovations included new floor surfaces and improvements to accessibility. The 1999 renovation also included the construction of a 5-bay food court, upgrades to the facade of the mall and installation of new skylights.

The Mall had the unusual quality of having at one point had six large anchor stores in 1987, Zayre (which later became an Ames , JC Penny , Cherry & Webb , Sears , Edgars , and Woolworths . The former Edgar's, Cherry & Webb, and Woolworth's Locations have since been subdivied. The Ames was demolished and replaced with a Filene's in 2004. In 2006, Filene's will become Macy's .

The original three-screen cinemna was upgraded twice, once to six screens before 1987, and to 12 screens in 1994, taking over a 13000 additional sq ft. in the former 40000 sq ft. Woolworths location.

The mall had been previously managed by Equity Properties And Development Limited Partnership Of Chicago .
