Dangriga, formerly known as '''Stann Creek Town''', is a Town in the south of the nation of Belize , at the mouth of the river of Stann Creek on the Caribbean Sea . It is the capital of Belize's Stann Creek District . It was long the second largest population center in the country behind Belize City , but in recent years has been surpassed by Orange Walk Town . Dangriga has some 9,100 people. Dangriga was first settled under the name "Stann Creek Town" as a trading and logging post in the late 17th Century . The population is mostly a mixture of Garifuna s, Creoles (''Kriols'') , and '' Mestizo s''. |
