His big break came when he became the regular writer for Marvel’s universe. This led to his return to Marvel in 2004 launching a new She-Hulk series. Humorously filled with Dan’s love and knowledge of the nuances and trivia of the Marvel Universe , the series received critical ravings, developed a cult following, and began Dan’s rise to stardom. But sales on the book were insufficient, and Marvel brought it to a close after a year. However, much like another Marvel series at the time, Runaways , sales on the Collected Editions were encouraging, a buzz had begun to spread about the book, and Marvel decided to relaunch the series in October 2005 , which was met with higher sales. While She-Hulk was on hiatus, Dan penned the nostalgic Spider-Man / Human Torch miniseries, which chronicled the friendship of the two characters over the years. He also gave the satirical team the Great Lakes Avengers their first ever solo miniseries, which parodied Comic Book Death events by killing a character every issue. He also made the first roster change to the team since their inception by inventing a new character, Grasshopper , and reviving an obscure one, Squirrel Girl . During this time, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel. Dan was also awarded the opportunity to give the Fantastic Four ’s much beloved Thing his first solo series in 20 years in the winter of 2005, and wrote a Christmas one-shot sequel to GLA the same month. In October 2005 , he first appeared on Wizard Magazine ’s Top 10 Hot Writers list. PARTIAL BIBLIOGRAPHY
