American Race Car driver. Jarrett currently races in the
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series exclusively.
In
1999 , Jarrett won the Winston Cup Championship, which is now called the
Nextel Cup , and thus with his father,
Ned Jarrett , became only the second father-son duo to win a championship.
Jarrett has won the
Daytona 500 three times, in
1993 ,
1996 , and
2000 .
Jarrett never intended on following in his father's racing footsteps. Dale's father envisioned him becoming a professional
Golf er. In fact, Dale was offered a golf
Scholarship by the
University Of South Carolina , but he turned it down because he "didn't really care for schooling".
Since the
2001 season, Jarrett has been the driver of the #88
UPS Ford . Prior to his sponsorship deal with UPS, Jarrett had driven the #88 Ford Credit Ford since 1996.
Ford Credit has remained an associate sponsor.
Jarrett and his wife Kelley, along with their four kids, currently reside in
Hickory, North Carolina . He also operates a Ford dealership in
Indian Trail, North Carolina , southeast of
Charlotte .

2006 that he plans on retiring after the completion of the 2008 season.
