Dahuk (historical name: Nohadra) (also referred to as '''Dohuk''') (. It is in the north of the country, within the Kurdish Autonomous Region . Its capital is Dahuk city. It also includes the city of Zakho , which has at various times served as a checkpoint for the border with Turkey .

During the 1991 Gulf War, the capital was abandoned and occupied by the Iraqi army, hostile to the local Kurd population. Dohuk is currently thriving under the new post-Saddam government. The province is currently under the control of Kurdistan Regional Government .
