Czechs ( people of Central Europe , living predominantly in the Czech Republic . Small populations of Czechs live also in Slovakia , Austria , USA , Canada , Germany , Russia and other countries. They speak the Czech Language , which is closely related to the Slovak Language . Among the ancestors of the Czechs are ancient Slavic Tribes who inhabited the region of Bohemia from the 6th Century onwards. They used to be called Bohemian s in English at least until the beginning of the 20th century, when the term was gradually replaced by the present one. A small number of the inhabitants of the former province of Moravia on the east of the country consider themselves as members of a distinct Moravian nation or Ethnic Group .
