Cumberland Valley




Just west of the Blue Ridge is the Great Valley , a natural lowland route running northeast-southwest. The Great Valley is known locally as the Cumberland Valley and has historically been admired for its fertile agricultural land. It is bound to the northeast by the Susquehanna River and its southern terminus is the Potomac River . Further south the Great Valley is known locally as the Shenandoah Valley . The Cumberland Valley Railroad is also named for the region. The valley lies within the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
