Cross Examination Debate Association





HISTORY

CEDA was founded in 1971 as the Southwest Cross Examination Debate Association. Originally begun as a split from the National Debate Tournament (NDT), CEDA has reunified to where they cooperate with NDT and the American Debate Association to have a joint topic for the school year. CEDA typically uses a Policy Debate format.


TOURNAMENT RESULTS

  • 2002: Fort Hays State University (Ramsey and Regnier) won the 2002 CEDA National Tournament in a 5-4 decision against Michigan State.


  • 2003: New York University (Richard Garner and Nate Gorelick) won the 2003 CEDA National Tournament in a 5-4 decision against Whitman.


  • 2004: Emory University (Beckley and Liu) won the 2004 CEDA National Tournament in a 9-0 decision against North Texas.


  • 2005: UC Berkeley 's Craig Wickersham and Stacey Nathan won the 2005 CEDA National Tournament on a 7-2 decision. They also were one ballot away from winning the 2005 National Debate Tournament .
