''Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest'', known in Japan as '''''Super Donkey Kong 2''''', is a video game made for Nintendo 's Super NES ( Super Famicom in Japan) Video Game Console . It was released in 1995 as a sequel to '' Donkey Kong Country ''. It was Developed by Rare Ltd. and Published by Nintendo.

DESCRIPTION

In this game, Diddy Kong and his girlfriend Dixie Kong have to save Donkey Kong from Kaptain K. Rool (actually the same character as King K. Rool in ''Donkey Kong Country'', but in a different guise).

The game starts where the first ''Donkey Kong Country'' left off, in Gangplank Galleon. For this reason, the game's theme became largely about sailing and Pirates . The game contained new features, such as the ability to transform into various Animals (the first game included the animals, the characters rode them rather than transformed into them). While the game introduced new features, it also abandoned many features that were in ''Donkey Kong Country''. For example, the steel barrel was removed, eliminating the ability to roll on barrels. Another feature that was removed was the ability to find hidden items in the ground.

CHARACTERS

Other characters that were not playable

  • Cranky Kong

  • :As in ''Donkey Kong Country'', Cranky gives help about stages in the world, while making various jokes about the games advanced nature. His room contains many items from Donkey Kong Country 1, as well as various Nintendo and Rareware items.

  • Funky Kong

  • :Funky Kong enables the player to travel through different worlds in ''Donkey Kong Country 2''. This is the only way to travel from world to world, without beating the boss of the world. In the first ''Donkey Kong Country'', Funky Kong used a Jumbo Jet Barrel (a barrel with wings and a cockpit resembling a Jumbo Jet protruding), but in ''Donkey Kong Country 2'', Funky uses a Biplane barrel.

  • Wrinkly Kong

  • :Wrinkly is Cranky's wife, DK's mother, and teacher at Kong Kollege. This place, which appears in each world of ''Donkey Kong Country 2'', is the only way to save the game. It also contains various information about the boss of the world, as well as any enemies you may encounter.

  • Swanky Kong

  • :Swanky is an elegant-looking game show host. He allows you to try and earn lives by answering questions about the game.

PORTS

Rare began porting the game to the short-lived Nintendo Virtual Boy , though the project was cancelled at an early stage. {Link without Title}

In 2004 , a Game Boy Advance port was released. The game included new features such as additional mini-games, a new boss, and the insertion of characters that didn't appear in the original. The port also had a number of minor changes.

MUSIC

DKC2 has been widely praised for it's music, composed by Dave Wise . Wise, combining different styles, such as the adventure-type orchestra song played during the level selection to the low melodies of Gloomy Gulch, was succesful in creating a sound track that moved the player, whilst kept the funny and sometimes silly backgrounds from intruding. One particular track that stands out is the "Brambles" song, played through-out the various different thorns-in-the-sky stages. The music would go on to inspire one of the longest topics in the history of GameFaqs (including both the older and newer topics as one) in the DKC2 section of the forums. Brambles has become the most popular choice amongst the users.

TRIVIA

  • If the player completes enough bonuses, a congratulatory screen will be unlocked in which Nintendo characters Mario , Yoshi and Link make an appearance.

  • All of Wrinkly Kong's Math problems are wrong.
