Cressington railway station serves the Cressington and Grassendale districts of Liverpool , England . It is situated on the Southport-Hunts Cross route of the Northern Line of the Merseyrail suburban system. The station is a Grade II Listed Building . HISTORY The current station opened in 1978 , when the "link" tunnel through Liverpool city centre was built and the Northern Line was created. It is on the site of an earlier station, called ''Cressington & Grassendale'', which had closed in 1972 . SERVICES Trains operate every 15 minutes, Monday-Saturday daytime to Southport via Liverpool Central to the north, and Hunts Cross to the south.
