Creation Records was a British indie Record Label headed by Alan McGee , lasting from 1984 to 1999 . The name came from the 1960s band The Creation , whom McGee greatly admired (McGee's own band was called Biff Bang Pow , also a Creation song). From the early 1990s on, however, its 'independent' status was severely compromised, since financial difficulties forced it into partnership with Sony . During its existence Creation's roster featured some of the leading lights of British 'indie' music, including The Jesus And Mary Chain , My Bloody Valentine , Ride , Fluke , Swervedriver , Slowdive , The House Of Love , Teenage Fanclub , Primal Scream , Oasis , Super Furry Animals , The Telescopes , The Boo Radleys and 18 Wheeler . It also launched subsidiary Rev-ola Records for cult reissues. Since the dissolution of Creation Records in 1999 McGee has been running the Poptones label, which has seen a return to the staunchly independent roots of Creation. Most notably, Poptones launched the career of The Hives in the UK. SEE ALSO EXTERNAL LINKS |
