Probably among the three most exclusive mountain locations in Europe, Cortina is known for its first-class hotels and shops. During the summer and winter holidays, it is a tradition to go for a walk on Corso Italia where all tourists go for shopping, but most of all to see and to be seen. The surroundings of Cortina have been the location for a number of movies, including '' Cliffhanger '' starring Sylvester Stallone , '' Krull '', the James Bond film '' For Your Eyes Only '' and '' The Pink Panther '' starring David Niven and Peter Sellers . Cortina d'Ampezzo was the host town of the 1956 Winter Olympics . The 1944 Winter Olympics were also scheduled to be held in Cortina, but were cancelled because of World War II .
