It is located in northern Coos County . In addition to the town of Coos Bay, the town of North Bend is located along the bay, and a small fishing village, Charleston, is directly opposite the entrance of the bay. Most of the fishing and pleasure boats are located in Charleston and even though it is the smallest town on the bay most tourists are attracted to the boat basin at Charleston, and from there to the beaches and parks. Coos River enters the bay from the east, descending from the Coastal mountain Range. The bay and the towns along it have formed one of the most important ports throughout the history of the state, especially for timber from the surrounding forest regions. |
