A native of Cork , Con Murphy played Hurling for Cork in the 1930s and 1940s. He was a member of the famous Cork team which won four All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship s from 1941 to 1944 . Following his playing career, Murphy became involved in the administration of the GAA. He served as chairman of Cork county committee (1951-54), treasurer (1954-56), and honorary secretary (1956-1974). He became presient of the GAA in 1976 . During his three-year presidency he saw his native Cork win three All-Ireland titles in a row. Murphy was also a Referee and a member of the RTÉ Authority. |
