Information AboutCobra Unit |
|
The unit was formed by The Boss in 1942 to combat the Axis Powers . It was created using the resources of the United States , Soviet Union and China , under The Philosophers . It consisted of the best Soldiers from the Allied nations. The Cobra unit took part in a number of important missions throughout the war, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy . They are credited with leading the Allies to victory. The unit consisted of six members, identified by their codenames: The Boss disbanded the unit in 1947 and she and the other members seemingly went their separate ways and returned to their respective countries. In 1962 , The Boss was forced to kill The Sorrow when she was sent on a mission to Tselinoyarsk . Despite their having been in love, she killed him for the sake of her mission. The Sorrow understood this, and encouraged her to 'complete her mission'. In 1964 , after apparently Defect ing to the Soviet Union , The Boss reassembled the remaining Cobras. Naked Snake eventually defeated each of them in single combat during the course of Operation Snake Eater , and with the final loss of their leader, the group ceased to exist. A peculiar trait in this unit is the fact that in ''Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater'' when Naked Snake defeated a member, they would blow themselves up, possibly via a minibomb. There are exceptions to this. The Sorrow does not use such explosives (as his body can be seen in an R1 first person view sequence after Snake has bandaged himself up at the end of the Virtuous Mission), and The Boss/The Joy presumably does not do this either, although the area where her body was located was later heavily bombed by a group of MIGs. The Fury may or may not; when Naked Snake defeats him, he activates his jetpack, and crashes into the ceiling of the underground tunnels that Naked Snake fights him in. This causes the concrete ceiling to cave in. An explosion is visible, but it is not known whether this is caused by one of the Cobra's minibombs, or if it is just a direct result of his fuel tanks igniting. These microbombs, however, do explain how defeated bosses in Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake seemingly explode unintentionally. |
