Coalition To Stop Gun Violence

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence or '''CSGV''' is a non-partisan group of 45 organizations representing 100,000 individual members that was founded in 1974 to ban handguns and currently seeks to ban firearm Assault Weapons and to maintain other gun control laws in the United States . The coalition works at the state and federal level through both Litigation and legislative Lobbying to further their agenda of tighter Gun Control . CSGV supports policies that it claims save lives and protect rights, such as property rights, that have been infringed by the pro-gun rights lobby.

The Coalition is under the leadership of founding president Michael Beard . The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence is CSGV's non-profit adjunct organization that focuses on youth education, funding research, and informing professionals and the public about gun violence issues in a light favorable to gun control advocates.

This organization was first known as the "The National Council to Ban Handguns", which was often confused with the similarly-named National Council To Control Handguns (NCCH). Rather than endure the confusion, its name was changed to '''"The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence"'''.
