The Charter Township of Clinton, usually referred to as '''Clinton Township''', is a Charter Township located in Macomb County in the U.S. State of Michigan . As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 95,648. The township is named for the Clinton River , which had been renamed at the first meeting of the Michigan State Legislature in honor of DeWitt Clinton , the popular governor of New York from 1817 to 1823 . The river forks into three branches within the township. Rapper Eminem has a residence in the township. TV producer and director Paul Feig went to Chippewa Valley High School in the township, which is possibly the setting of his short-lived NBC series '' Freaks And Geeks '' (1999-2000). GEOGRAPHY According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 73.1 Km&2 (28.2 Mi&2 ). 73.0 km&2 (28.2 mi&2) of it is land and 0.1 km&2 (0.04 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.11% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 95,648 people, 40,299 households, and 25,549 families residing in the township. The Population Density was 1,310.0/km&2 (3,392.5/mi&2). There were 41,803 housing units at an average density of 572.6/km&2 (1,482.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the township was 91.12% White , 4.66% African American , 0.29% Native American , 1.68% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander , 0.41% from Other Races , and 1.83% from two or more races. 1.74% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 40,299 households out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.7% were Married Couples living together, 10.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.6% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.98. In the township the population was spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.5 males. The median income for a household in the township was $50,067, and the median income for a family was $61,497. Males had a median income of $48,818 versus $29,847 for females. The Per Capita Income for the township was $25,758. 5.8% of the population and 4.2% of families were below the Poverty Line . 7.4% of those under the age of 18 and 6.8% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
