(''Siorrachd Chlach Mhannainn'' in
Gaelic ) is one of 32 unitary
Council Areas of
Scotland , and a
Lieutenancy Area , bordering onto the council areas of
Perth And Kinross ,
Stirling and
Fife . The
Ochil Hills lie in the northern area of the county. It mostly comprises a lowland plain forming the valleys of the
River Forth and of the
River Devon which joins the Forth near
Cambus .
It is the smallest unitary council region in mainland Scotland, with a population of just 49,000 around half of whom live in the main town,
Alloa , which is the administration centre, having outgrown the former county town of
Clackmannan in 1822.
The main industries are
Agriculture ,
Brewing , and formerly
Coal Mining .
It is also a
Traditional County of
Scotland , bordering on
Perthshire ,
Stirlingshire and
Fife . As Scotland's smallest historic county, it is often nicknamed 'The Wee County'. The county motto is 'Look Aboot Ye'.
