Clackmannanshire (''Siorrachd Chlach Mhannainn'' in Gaelic ) is one of 32 unitary Council Areas of Scotland , and a Lieutenancy Area , bordering onto the council areas of Perth And Kinross , Stirling and Fife . The Ochil Hills lie in the northern area of the county. It mostly comprises a lowland plain forming the valleys of the River Forth and of the River Devon which joins the Forth near Cambus .

It is the smallest unitary council region in mainland Scotland, with a population of just 49,000 around half of whom live in the main town, Alloa , which is the administration centre, having outgrown the former county town of Clackmannan in 1822.

The main industries are Agriculture , Brewing , and formerly Coal Mining .

It is also a Traditional County of Scotland , bordering on Perthshire , Stirlingshire and Fife . As Scotland's smallest historic county, it is often nicknamed 'The Wee County'. The county motto is 'Look Aboot Ye'.
