Civic Alliance Foundation




Civic Alliance Foundation (in Romanian: "Alianţa Civică]" was founded in November 1990. On 6 November 1990 a number of 216 founder members (personalities from the science, cultural and political life or Romania) signed a declaration of intentions. The organization was eventually registered officially on 29 November 1990 .

Civic Alliance Foundation the biggest Romania n NGO organization working for the consolidation of a civil society in Romania after the 40 years of communism. Alianţa Civică has subsidiaries in 36 counties (out of 41) of Romania . This is being ruled by a number of 27 members which forms the National Council.

Here are the main objectives of the organization (as per you can see in the statute)
  • works for the construction of the civil society in Romania

  • defends the fundamental Human Rights

  • sustains the creation of a tolerant climate among the citizens, especially among the different ethnic and religious groups

  • organizes programs of civil educations

  • works for integration of the country in the EU and NATO structures

  • actions for promoting the real values and for the elimination of the corruption from the political life of the country.

  • works to restore the links between the Romanians abroad and the country


Important members of this organization were: Ana Blandiana , Romulus Rusan , Petre Mihai Băcanu , Şerban Rădulescu-Zoner , Ion Caramitru , Doina Cornea , Sorin Ilieşiu , Mihai Şora , Lucia Hossu Longin and Dan Puric .
