ITV's Soap Opera ''
Coronation Street ''. She is the tarty, common,
Redhead wife of
Les Battersby-Brown , and mother of
Chesney ,
Fiz and non-regular character, Billy, who is in the
Army .
Cilla can be a very cruel, evil woman, who would sell her own kids for some money. Her young son Chesney still loves and believes in his mother, who has often used him as a weapon for people to feel sorry for her and give her money.
She first appeared as a barmaid in the
Weatherfield Arms , and she spent days in bed with
Les , whom she met there, and it was when she came face-to-face with resident Fiz it was revealed that they were mother and daughter. It was revealed that she had also left her son to starve in their home for days while she was having fun with her new man.
The mother and son moved in, but due to Cilla's attempts to force herself on other men, she dumped Chesney on Les and stayed with a friend for six weeks When she showed her face, Les was on the verge of rekindling the passion with his estranged wife, Janice, but this was halted after Les finally gave in to passion with Cilla as she flirtatiously coaxed him into sex.
In
2005 , Les and Cilla dumped Chesney on
The Croppers and jetted off to Spain for six weeks!
They later planned to marry for the expensive wedding presents, and on her hen night, Cilla tried to sleep with a younger man but Les interrupted and she passed off the man as her eldest son, Billy, who was arriving for the special day.
On
Christmas Day 2005 , she tried to slow-cook, and deep-fry, her turkey when the oven broke down, at the local chip shop, where she works. When they got back hours later, they discovered the chip shop's interior was being burnt to the ground by a blaze sparked by the cooker.
In a story of early
March 2006 , Cilla threw out
Les after he slept with his ex-wife
Janice . The viewers saw a sensitive side to Cilla that they had never seen before. She was genuinly hurt at what Les had done, often appearing in no makeup and basic clothes. It showed Cilla wasn't all cruel. When
Les said he would crawl across the cobbles in order to win Cilla over, Cilla couldn't
Les go through with it, and so they reunited.
Les and Cilla finally arranged their wedding day, despite the fact that the
Priest was a de-frocked
Clergyman , and they had to distract the real
Vicar while they 'married'. Cilla smashed
Tracy Barlow's window (due to the fact that she wouldn't hand over the bouquet of flowers for the ceremony because Cilla wouldn't pay up) and then she ran to the
Dev Alahan's shop and stole some flowers before jumping into the wedding car towards the church.
Les was driving when he spotted a member of
Status Quo , took his eyes of the road to stare in amazement, and crash into their van (with the other band member inside).
Status Quo decided to play at the wedding to avoid a lawsuit against Les who had been punched by a member of the band.
Les put on a neck brace before 'tying the knot' (despite the marriage not being legal) with Cilla, and they became known as the Battersby-Brown family.
Cilla's dream came true upon her many, many presents, such as a
Wide-screen TV that
Lloyd Mullaney found after it fell off the back of a skip.
The Quo turned up at a back room in the reception (where the presents were being kept) to calm down and rest. Les walked in, and told his idols that his dream was to trash a room with expensive things in. He duly chucked all his things about and wrecked everything, and threw the TV out of the window, only for Cilla to walk in to inform him that he had just trashed the presents! She went crazy and started attacking him as the Quo watched in bursts of laughter, and the reception ended with the band agreeing to put past differences with Les behind them, and they performed ''Rockin' All Over the World'' with Les on stage with them.
Cilla then went on honeymoon with her friend,
Yana Lamb , instead of Les. Upon returning, Les and Cilla were legally married (off-screen) in a
Registry Office .
Cilla has been involved in many major Coronation Street storylines:
- Rita Sullivan caught Chesney shoplifting, and gave him a small clip around the ear. Cilla forced her son to exaggerate injuries in order to scam Rita .
- Cilla used Fiz 's name in order to get a credit card.
- Les threw Cilla out, and she left Chesney with him. She thought that Les and estranged wife Janice were getting close to each other again. She returned, and worked her way around Les until he agreed to get back together with her.
- Cilla married Les in a stolen church with a fake priest so she could get expensive wedding presents.
- Cilla threw Les out after he slept with his ex-wife Janice Battersby after a drunken night out together, following Janice 's sacking. She took him back after he offered to crawl across the cobbles on his hands and knees.
