Church Crookham is most notable for its Gurkha Brigade base, which was established in 1971 and lasted until August 2000. The abandoned base is still present, though planning permission has been sought for a housing estate as yet this has not been approved. Another well known site in Church Crookham is Tweseldown race course, a point-to-point horse racing track. Church Crookham has been used as a filming location for several movies. Especially noteworthy is the 2002 James Bond movie Die Another Day , which used woodland in Church Crookham to represent the border between North and South Korea . The village has had at least one famous resident, Undertones lead singer Feargal Sharkey - though the road he once lived on is now considered part of Fleet.
