Christopher Doyle




Christopher Doyle (born and member of the HKSC .

He has worked with leading Chinese directors such as Wong Kar-wai , Zhang Yimou and Zhang Yuan . He directed a feature film, '' Away With Words '' (aka ''Kujaku'', aka ''San tiao ren'') set in Hong Kong and Okinawa , starring Asano Tadanobu .

His style as a Director of Photography is quite unique. Despite quite a large amount of Hollywood-style work he often uses extreme angles, is distinctive in his use of filters and vanguard color grading. He is also an established photographer, known for his drinking habits as well as his dry wit.

In the late 1970s, he went to Taiwan from Hong Kong and then got settled in Taipei. In 1978, he started to work as a photographer for Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and Zuni Icosahedron. In 1981, he was invited by the film director Edward Yang to be the cinematographer of his film ''That Day, On the Beach'' and won the Best Cinamotography Award in the 1983 Asia-Pacific Film Festival.
