For simplicity, the characters have been categorized principally according to where they reside, either on the human plane or within the Soul Society. Additionally, Tite Kubo has included character profiles in the back of each Tankōbon , offering insight into traits of the main characters that might otherwise not be revealed; this includes one or two pieces of music that Tite Kubo associates with each character, reflecting a surprisingly eclectic and worldly range of genres and artists. MAIN CHARACTERS :Theme: News From the Front, by Bad Religion :Theme: Wing Stock, by Ashley MacIsaac HUMAN WORLD The Kurosaki Family :Theme: Don't Drag me Down, by Social Distortion . :Cynical and sarcastic, she claims that she doesn't believe in spirits even if she can see them, although she's not above using her abilities to earn a little cash. An excellent soccer player with a powerful kick. Karin actually knows that Ichigo is a shingami and wants to know why he's suffering. :A soft-spoken child who takes care of most of the housework, unlike the rest of the family, she is only able to see faint outlines of spirits. She and Karin are fraternal twins, both born on the 6th of May. Oddly enough, Karin and Yuzu are respective homonyms for Japanese quince and citron, names of fruits, which matches Ichigo's name being a homonym for strawberry.
:Ichigo, Yuzu, and Karin's mother, apparently an Idol during her life (judging by the enormous poster her husband keeps). Born 9th of June. She died while Ichigo was still a child, and her death deeply affects her family. It was later revealed that she had been killed by the Grand Fisher, a Hollow designated by the shinigami as a high-priority threat. She was killed while protecting young Ichigo from Grand Fisher. Isshin blames himself for her loss. Karakura High School :Theme: T'en va pas, by Elsa :Theme: Mou Aoi Tori wa Tobanai, by Hàl :Theme: Idioteque, by Radiohead :Theme: No Song Unheard, by The Hellacopters :Though he has a boyish face and gentle manner of speaking, he has a marked fondness for older women. Atypical of male characters in anime, he is apparently very successful with these women, and often excuses himself from Asano's activities because of a date with one or more women, the latter being more likely. In an extra chapter in the twelfth volume of Bleach, it is revealed that Mizuiro had very few friends until junior high. He is very distant towards his mother, who is seldom home. :An open lesbian, her numerous advances on Orihime Inoue are usually thwarted by Tatsuki. She calls Orihime, "Hime", which means "Princess". :A cold and bespectacled girl (though she tends to take her glasses off when she doesn't need them), she does well in her studies (2nd best at school) and can often be seen with her nose in a book. She's no nerd, though. As the school's track star, she can run 100 metres in 12 seconds flat. :A girl seen often with Ryō Kunieda. A member of Ichigo's class who forms a circle of friends with other girls, including Orihime, Tatsuki, and Chizuru. She seems to be more of a follower than a leader, and thinks Ichigo has a scary face. :A girl seen often with Ryō Kunieda. A member of Ichigo's class who forms a circle of friends with other girls, including Orihime, Tatsuki, and Chizuru. Though not shown very often, she's outgoing and talkative. :A boy with dyed orange hair who challanges Ichigo for stealing his style, evidently on a regular basis. He appears once and is swiftly beaten up in one hit by an already-injured Chad, despite proclaiming to be tough. :4th student in school in terms of academic achievements. :Ichigo's class teacher. She is very easy going, accepts any excuse (no matter how flimsy and unbelievable), and doesn't seem to mind in the slightest when Ichigo and his spiritually endowed friends suddenly take off from class. She also doesn't seem terribly concerned that her students aren't really learning anything. Urahara shop See Also: Urahara Shōten :A small, quiet girl who frequently suffers bullying from Jinta. According to Urahara, she is powerful enough to effortlessly battle a shinigami, which suggests that she simply chooses not to fight back against Jinta. As shown in recent chapters she can also harm a captain-level arrancar. Her hairstyle is sometimes compared to a cockroach, and is often accented for visual gags. She appears to have a higher spiritual awareness than humans. Recent developments suggest that she, like Kon and Nemu Kurotsuchi , is an artificial lifeform, probably created by Urahara. :A boastful boy with red hair and an overdeveloped sense of his own self-worth. He's a baseball fan who fights well with a hexagonal club or "tessen". He is strong enough to take on weak Hollows. He appears to have a higher spiritual awareness than humans, but it's unclear whether he is/was a shinigami. He appears to have some sort of feelings for Ichigo's sister Yuzu, as he rejoins the Karakura Super Heroes upon her request and races against Karin as to find out who will save her. He tends to pick on Ururu, though Tessai or Urahara tend to intervene before he gets too nasty. Jinta looks particularly worried when Tessai operates on Ururu after she sustains battle wounds. This implies that he might have some genuine brotherly concern for the little girl. :A massive, muscular fellow with slim rectangular glasses, finely braided cornrows, and a well-groomed mustache. The most dedicated employee of the shop, he is never without his apron (even when otherwise Undressed ). He is likely a shinigami, more specifically, Urahara's former lieutenant, as seen by his usage of a level 99 kidō binding spell. The Quincy :The father of Uryū Ishida and one of the last remaining quincies. He is also the director of the hospital in Kurakara Town. He appears to be a cold, work-focused man, and is apparently estranged from his son. His Quincy bow is small, almost toy-like, but very powerful. He inherited all the powers and abilities of his father, Soken Ishida. :The grandfather and mentor of Uryū Ishida and presumably his father Ryūken, he was born the 22nd of March. Killed by hollows when shinigami did not come in time to save him. This is one of the reasons Uryū hates the shinigami. The Vizard A Vizard is an outcast shinigami who has gained hollow powers. :Introduced in ch. 189, she enjoys beating up Shinji, and she's also especially hot-headed. She might be older than Shinji, but looks much younger. She has quite a bit of authority in the group. She took the longest to conquer her hollow out of all the current vizard, at 62 minutes, 2 seconds. |
