GEOGRAPHY Centerville is located at 39°38'19" North, 84°8'53" West (39.638709, -84.148087). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 26.5 Km&2 (10.2 Mi&2 ). 26.4 km&2 (10.2 mi&2) of it is land and 0.1 km&2 (0.04 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.002% water. FAMOUS PEOPLE Famous people from this small community's public secondary school, Centerville High School , include Gordon Jump (Actor- WKRP in Cincinnati, Soap, Maytag Repair Man), A.J. Hawk , a linebacker for Ohio State who is expected to become a top 5 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. Mike Nugent also played football for Ohio State , and is currently Placekicker for the New York Jets . Kirk Herbstreit , class of 1988 , was the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year, and played Quarterback at the Ohio State University before becoming a sports analyst on the ESPN program College Gameday. Andy Harmon, former Philadelphia Eagles star and All-Madden Team Member also hails from Centerville. Comic actor Pat Kilbane has a home in Centerville. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 23,024 people, 9,996 households, and 6,597 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 871.5/km&2 (2,257.2/mi&2). There were 10,422 housing units at an average density of 394.5/km&2 (1,021.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.33% White , 2.94% African American , 0.13% Native American , 3.17% Asian , 0.06% Pacific Islander , 0.26% from Other Races , and 1.10% from two or more races. 1.18% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 9,996 households out of which 26.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.0% were Married Couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.0% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.82. In the city the population was spread out with 21.6% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.3 males. The median income for a household in the city was $54,892, and the median income for a family was $68,580. Males had a median income of $52,331 versus $34,881 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $30,210. 4.1% of the population and 3.4% of families were below the Poverty Line . 6.4% of those under the age of 18 and 3.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
