Centerport is a Hamlet (and Census-designated Place ) located in Suffolk County , New York on the North Shore of Long Island . As of the United States 2000 Census , the CDP had a total population of 5,446. Centerport is in the Town Of Huntington and is in the Harborfields Central School District . GEOGRAPHY Centerport is located at 40°53'34" North, 73°22'41" West (40.892848, -73.378007). According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 9.2 Km&2 (3.6 Mi&2 ). 5.5 km&2 (2.1 mi&2) of it is land and 3.7 km&2 (1.4 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 40.34% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 5,446 people, 2,022 households, and 1,526 families residing in the CDP. The Population Density was 987.2/km&2 (2,562.0/mi&2). There were 2,094 housing units at an average density of 379.6/km&2 (985.1/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.65% White , 0.22% African American , 0.11% Native American , 1.18% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.31% from Other Races , and 0.53% from two or more races. 2.15% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 2,022 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.9% were Married Couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% were non-families. 18.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.07. In the CDP the population was spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 27.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $92,456, and the median income for a family was $101,908. Males had a median income of $71,786 versus $54,706 for females.
