CODE DATA HISTORY The airline was established and started operations in July 1968 . It was formed to replace Cayman Brac Airways and became wholly government owned in December 1977 . The airline operated regional services from Owen Roberts International Airport in George Town, Grand Cayman to Gerrard Smith International Airport on Cayman Brac . Early on, the aircraft operated were Douglas DC3 s. The airline began international services in the early '70s with a service to Miami using a single leased Douglas DC6 . The airline acquired its first jet aircraft; the BAC 1-11 in 1976, and began services to other parts of the USA. The airline purchased a 727 as well in 1982, strengthining the airline's regional and international capability. These aging jets were eventually replaced with newer Boeing 737-200 s, and new destinations were added, including Fort Lauderale, Tampa and notably Havana in 1999. Since then, the airline has added new destinations and progressed rapidly to become one of the most profitable and highly regarded airlines operating in the caribbean.
