Constructed in Greek Revival style, the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, is the seat of the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Mobile , in Mobile, Alabama . The Cathedral was consecrated for public worship in 1850. Its brilliant interior is described as “an explosion of splintered light. The southern sun filters through dark wine reds, Prussian blues and the velvety greens of the magnificent German stained glass windows.”

In 1962 the cathedral became a Minor Basilica by decree of Pope John XXIII .
