Tunis-Carthage International Airport is the international airport serving Tunis , Tunisia . It has the IATA code '''TUN''' and the ICAO code '''DTTA'''. It is the base of operations for Tunisair , Nouvelair Tunisia , Tuninter and Tunisavia . On May 7 , 2002 , an Egyptair Boeing 737 attempting to land from Cairo crashed 4 miles from the airport, killing 14 of the 62 people on board. The airport is named for the historic city of Carthage , located just north of the airport. In 2004, the airport served approximately 3.4 million passengers.
