Carl Gustaf Von Nieroth




His date and location of his birth are unknown, but it was in Finland . The first information of his life is as a Cornet of the Swedish Army in Pomerania , 1671 . In 1692 he had risen to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel , and in 1700 to Major General . The Great Northern War (1700-1721) started that year, and Nieroth was involved in several successful battles, and was in 1704 appointed Lieutenant General .

After Viborg was lost in 1710, Nieroth was sent to try and raclaim it. He had managed to gather 10,000 men who sieged the city in 1711, but lacked proper equipment to enter it, and had to retreat. He died suddenly while temporarily halting in Pärnå parish, on January 25 , 1712 .
