Caprica is a fictional Planet featured in both the original and reimagined '' Battlestar Galactica '' Science Fiction Television series. It was a member of the Twelve Colonies Of Kobol up until its destruction. In the opening storyline for both series, Caprica was devastated in a sneak attack by the Cylons . In the reimagined series, Caprica is portrayed as an Earth-like planet, and is the only colony to be seen thus far in the series. While its relationship with the other colony worlds is never fully explained in the original movie and subsequent original series, it appears to be home to the Colonial Government according to reimagined series. Caprica was established in the original series as belonging to the group of "inner planets". According to the reimagined series, there were twelve Battlestar s, one for each colony; with the Battlestar ''Galactica'' specifically said to have been built to represent Caprica. The episodes of the reimagined series depict what happens to the planet and some of the human survivors who remained on Caprica in the aftermath of the attack. Over time, Caprica's lush green color slowly fades to a dull brown as fallout of the Cylon nuclear attacks begin to destroy the environment. As viewed from the surface, Caprica's blue sky turns to a hazy orange. The human survivors are faced with the threat of both radiation poisoning and Cylon attempts to occupy the planet. The Cylons eventually abandon Caprica, however, in accordance with a shift in the ultimate goals of the Cylons. At the end of the second season of the reimagined series, the fleet of human refugees, under escort of ''Galactica'', discover a new world to inhabit and dub it "New Caprica". TV SERIES Sci-Fi channel announced on April 26, 2006 that a new Battlestar Galactica Prequel called "Caprica" was in the works. This series would take place some 50 years or more before the events of the re-imagined series and cover the society that existed as the first sentient robots (Cylons) were created and their eventual rebellion that led to the First Cylon War . The series would be focused on the Adama family and the Greystone family. |
