Cape May Court House is a Census-designated Place and Unincorporated area located within Middle Township , in Cape May County , New Jersey . As of the United States 2000 Census , the CDP had a total population of 4,704. It is the county seat of Cape May County and serves as the principal administrative hub for the township.


GEOGRAPHY

Cape May Court House is located at 39°4'50" North, 74°49'28" West (39.080425, -74.824428).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 23.6 Km&2 (9.1 Mi&2 ). 23.3 km&2 (9.0 mi&2) of it is land and 0.4 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.54% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 4,704 people, 1,732 households, and 1,221 families residing in the CDP. The Population Density was 202.3/km&2 (524.1/mi&2). There were 2,086 housing units at an average density of 89.7/km&2 (232.4/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 84.35% White , 10.88% African American , 0.19% Native American , 2.70% Asian , 0.06% Pacific Islander , 0.40% from Other Races , and 1.40% from two or more races. 1.57% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,732 households out of which 31.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% were Married Couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% were non-families. 24.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.07.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 86.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $48,902, and the median income for a family was $56,707. Males had a median income of $39,848 versus $28,043 for females. The Per Capita Income for the CDP was $21,541. 7.0% of the population and 5.3% of families were below the Poverty Line . 12.1% of those under the age of 18 and 4.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
