PLOT

After learning in " Arthur's Mantle " that Merlin had created a weapon to destroy the Ori , SG-1 travels to the world of Camelot to attempt to find it. The village's inhabitants are unwilling to help SG-1 to investigate Merlin's library, fearing the "Curse of the Black Knight". When SG-1 goes in, the Knight appears in the village. They are beamed aboard the Odyssey, and learn that an intact Ori Supergate has been discovered. Col. Carter and Teal'c go with the Odyssey , and Col. Mitchell and Daniel Jackson continue searching the library. Mitchell attempts to fight the Black Knight, which causes a local girl, Valencia, to pull a sword from the stone to help him. Jackson solves the Ancient device's puzzle, and unlocks Merlin 's treasures, and disables the console in the library, destroying the Black Knight as it was about to kill Mitchell. Unfortunately, the anti-Ori weapon is not on the planet. They are beamed up by the Russian ship Korolev, which had been pressed into service to assist in the coming battle.

Meanwhile, Carter and Kvasir come up with a plan to reprogram the Supergate so that they can dial the Ori home galaxy, in the hope of blocking the Ori invasion. They are not fast enough, and the Ori dial in, which leaves Carter stranded in space (wearing a spacesuit) feet from the Supergate. The Korelev arrives, as does aid from the Lucian Alliance , after Teal'c takes great risks to secure their aid. Four Ori Ship s come through the Gate, one of which is carrying Vala. The ships destroy several of the Hatak s, and one of the Earth Battlecruisers. Which Earth vessel was destroyed is not made clear in the show. The episode ends a Cliffhanger .

QUOTES

  • Sam: This sure looks like the place where Merlin might have lived.
'''Mitchell:''' There could be dozens of villages in the area, just like this one. There is no way to be sure.
'''Daniel:''' Well...there is that... ---points to the Sword In The Stone ---

  • Daniel: You are making a mistake. There is no curse. The black knight is a security feature created by Merlin through the use of science and advanced technology. There is no magic... ---they all are beamed aboard the ''Odyssey''---

  • (later)
Daniel: Once and for all: There was no curse. This is a device. There is no magic... ---they are beamed aboard the ''Korolev''---
Daniel: Boy, my timing is off today...

  • Kvasir: There was enough data for us to summize what this so-called anti-Ori weapon might be.
'''Sam:''' Really? I wasn't able to make heads or tails of it.
    Kvasir: (''ironic'') Really?
'''Sam:''' (''annoyed'') Just tell me what you got...

NOTES

  • This is the first ''Stargate SG-1'' season finale since " Full Circle " that is not intended to be the ''SG-1'' series finale and is the first time since season six to end with a cliffhanger.

  • This episode was written without the knowledge that ''Stargate SG-1'' would be picked up for a tenth season, meaning that this could very well have been the series finale, ending the show on a cliffhanger.

  • This is also the first time since season five that the season has not included a clip show. It is the first season since the move to the SciFi Channel not to include a clip show.

  • The ''Korolev'' appears in this episode and is finally revealed what class of earth ship it is.

  • Either the ''Korolev'' or the ''Odyssey'' is destroyed in the final battle.

  • The title harks back to the Season Nine premiere, "Avalon" , which deals with another Arthurian myth.

  • It is also interesting to note that no "To be continued" disclaimer appeared at the end of this episode.
