Caliche (linguistics)




''Caliche'' is the name that the Salvadoreans themself call their Slang .

''Caliche'' is the local Slang terms and phrases that the people of the country of El Salvador use that are not oficially part of the Spanish language. Some phrases are Spanish expressions with a new unique local meaning.


EXAMPLES


bicho - little kid, sometimes derrogotory, like "brat" or "punk".

guacal - large bowl

chucho - dog

bolado - thing; object.

chunche - thing; object.

cipote - young boy or girl.

champa - a ramshackle hut made of all kind of odd materials.

tacuazĂ­n - opossum.

tunco - pig

cuzuco - armadillo.

pisto - money.

chuco - dirty, also the name of a local non alcoholic beverage similar to Horchata that contains so many ingredients that the end result looks 'dirty'.

chivo - cool. awesome.

puchica - oh my gosh! expression of surprise or anger. It is de facto a nicer connotation of the more vulgar expression 'puta' (whore).

guaro - alcohol, specially the cheap and strong kind.

bayunco - rowdy, immature, crazy.

chulo - cute. male

chula - cute. female

dundo - stupid or dumb.

chero/chera - usually denotes a "friend". Chero (male) Chera (female)
