Calgary Egmont was created in 1971 out of most of the old Calgary South riding. The riding covers central southeast Calgary, in the older neighborhoods of Riverbend, Acadia, Fairview, Willowpark, Mapleridge and Ramsay, Kingsland and Manchester The riding includes a large swath of industrial land including the Highfield Industrial area. Bonnybrook and the Sewage Treatment Plant. The neighborhoods in the north part of the riding are blue collar working class, while the south contains more upscale neighborhoods. Calgary Egmont has had three Progressive Conservatives MLA's since its creation in 1971. The Progressive Conservatives only strong challenge came in 1971 coming from Pat O'Byrne of the Social Credit party. No by-elections have taken place. The Progressive Conservatives have never had less than 50% of the popular vote in this riding. Calgary Egmont is considered one of the most conservative ridings especially in the south part of the riding which tends to anchor the strong wins, while the north tends to split votes among all parties. The right wing Alberta Alliance pulled out 15%, the Alliance's best showing in all of Calgary. BOUNDARIES ''As defined in the Electoral Division Act 2003'' North and East Boundary Starting at the intersection of the left bank of the Elbow River with the Canadian Pacific Railway line then southeast to the right bank of the Bow River in a generally southerly direction along the right bank of the Bow River to Glenmore Trail SE then southeast along Glenmore Trail SE to Barlow Trail SE then south along Barlow Trail SE to the north boundary of Sec. 16, Twp. 23, Rge. 29 W4 then west along Sec.13, Twp. 23, Rge. 1 W5 to the right bank of the Bow River then south along the Bow River to Deerfoot Trail SE. Calgary Buffalo borders to the north. Calgary Fort and Calgary Hays border to the east. South Boundary The boundary moves west along Deerfoot Trail to Anderson Road SE then west Light Rail Transit line. Calgary Fish Creek borders to the south. West Boundary The boundary moves north along the LRT Line to Heritage Drive SW then west to Elbow Drive SW then north to Glenmore Trail SW then east to Macleod Trail S then north along Macleod Trail S to the left bank of the Elbow River then southeast and northeast along the Elbow River to the starting point.
