Notably, Burwood East is home to one of the few remaining 24-hour Coles Supermarkets , and quite possibly the only 24-hour Kmart department store in Victoria, both found at Burwood Plaza (sometimes known as "Kmart Plaza") at the intersection of Burwood Highway and Blackburn Road, at the terminus of the Tram Route 75. With late-night shopping being increasingly unavailable in metro Melbourne, the plaza is kept very busy at all times with night shoppers from all surrounding suburbs coming to Burwood East for the after-hours shopping they can no longer access in their own local areas.
