The Rivet Joint aircraft fly Burning Wind missions from the following bases:
Burning Wind SIGINT / COMINT flights have been theorised as being partly responsible for the destruction of Korean Air Flight 007 on September 1 1983 . Reconnaissance flights were being undertaken in the area where the Korean airliner was later to pass, and the Soviet authorities saw the over-flying of their airspace as a provocation presuming it was still the same military flight.
