Bucyrus is home to the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival , which attracts 100,000 attendees each August. Industries located in Bucyrus include Ball Bearings , rubber hoses, Fluorescent lighting and high-performance fiberglass power boats. The Lincoln Highway was routed through it in 1913 . GEOGRAPHY Bucyrus is located at 40°48'22" North, 82°58'23" West (40.806014, -82.973169), along the Sandusky River . According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 18.9 Km&2 (7.3 Mi&2 ). 18.9 km&2 (7.3 mi&2) of it is land and 0.14% is water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 13,224 people, 5,559 households, and 3,552 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 699.4/km&2 (1,812.0/mi&2). There were 5,955 housing units at an average density of 315.0/km&2 (816.0/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.38% White , 0.78% African American , 0.27% Native American , 0.51% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 0.26% from Other Races , and 0.78% from two or more races. 0.98% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 5,559 households out of which 29.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.6% were Married Couples living together, 13.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.1% were non-families. 30.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.90. In the city the population was spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.3 males.
