Brown County is a County located in the U.S. State of South Dakota . As of 2000 , the population is 35,460. Its County Seat is Aberdeen 6 . GEOGRAPHY According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 4,484 Km&2 (1,731 Mi&2 ). 4,437 km&2 (1,713 mi&2) of it is land and 47 km&2 (18 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.05% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 35,460 people, 14,638 households, and 9,324 families residing in the county. The Population Density was 8/km&2 (21/mi&2). There were 15,861 housing units at an average density of 4/km&2 (9/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 95.47% White , 0.28% Black or African American , 2.72% Native American , 0.40% Asian , 0.09% Pacific Islander , 0.18% from Other Races , and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.67% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 14,638 households out of which 29.60% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.80% were Married Couples living together, 7.90% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.30% were non-families. 30.80% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.10% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.91. In the county, the population was spread out with 23.60% under the age of 18, 11.60% from 18 to 24, 26.70% from 25 to 44, 21.90% from 45 to 64, and 16.20% who were 65 years of age or older.
