HISTORY

The airline was originally formed in 1985 to handle the charter operation of Transwede Airways . During 1996 the charter part of the airline was taken over by Swedish tour operator Fritidsresor and renamed Blue Scandinavia . When Britannia Airways took control in 1998 following the acquisition of Fritidsresor by Thomson, the airline was renamed Britannia AB and later rebranded as Britannia Nordic. In 2000 Preussag (later TUI ) acquired the Thomson Group.

In November, . As a result all the airlines under TUIfly were rebranded with the name best known in their local market or the name of the principal tour operator for which they operated flights. All the airlines, with the exception of HLX.com, acquired the suffix "-fly" and had their aircraft repainted in the light blue TUI colours with red TUI logo.
In the case of Britanniafly, sometimes the lettres 'Fritidsresor' are marked on the fuselage as it is their main touroprator they do chartered flights for.
