is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands , in the province of Utrecht . It is situated in the heavily touristed Vecht area. During the 17th century a number of Amsterdam merchant families built their vast residences near Breukelen.

The Amsterdam-Rhine Canal passes Breukelen.
