In the
Stargate universe, is a former
First Prime of the
Goa'uld System Lord Apophis played by
Tony Amendola ; as of Season Nine, he is also a Progressive member of the High Council of the
Free Jaffa Nation . He is a legendary
Jaffa warrior,
Teal'c's former teacher and closest friend, and also a guardian to his son,
Rya'c . Bra'tac's quest is to rid the galaxy of the
Goa'uld , whose veil of divinity he has penetrated and who he hates for enslaving the Jaffa. When Teal'c was serving in
Apophis' army, Bra'tac was the
System Lord's First Prime . Bra'tac taught Teal'c to question the
Goa'uld . He is a respected leader among the growing number of
Free Jaffa .
Bra'tac was born in the
Earth year
1864 and has a habit of seemingly boasting about his advanced age. In the Season One episode "
Bloodlines " (in which he first appeared), he stated he was 133 years old. He later states that he is 135 in the Season Three premiere "
Into The Fire " and that he is 137 in the Season Five episode "
Threshold ".
In ''
Stargate SG-1 '', Bra'tac is one of the former leaders of the
Jaffa Resistance , the rebellion aimed at overthrowing the Goa'uld and establishing the freedom of all Jaffa. Now that freedom has been realised for the Jaffa, Bra'tac holds a position of honor and is still an important Tau'ri liaison. He also took over the training of Teal'c's son
Rya'c . He is a leader of the Progressive faction on the
High Council and advocates Teal'c's positions in High Council sessions on the frequent occasions that Teal'c is away. Awaiting the arrival of Gerak's fleet before the confrontation on Chulak, Teal'c suggested to Bra'tac that he might be the best man for the position of Head of the Jaffa High Council.
Bra'tac, or Master Bra'tac, as he is often called, is one of the most frequently
Recurring Character s on ''
Stargate SG-1 ''.
Master Bra'tac is one of the most skilled staff weapon wielding Jaffa; he can fire it in rapid succession, much like the
FN P90 machine gun.
Bra'tac frees SG-1, which was imprisoned on
Klorel's ship. He then helps them destroy the two ships attacking Earth but he has to reveal his betrayal to Apophis. It is also during this time that he first visits
SGC and meets
General Hammond .
Later in this year Bra'tac helps Teal'c free his son from Apophis.
Bra'tac helps Teal'c and Hammond rescue the other members of SG-1 from
Hathor . However during this time it becomes evident that Bra'tac has become an outcast among the Jaffa.
Months later Bra'tac helps SG-1 find the
Harcesis child and visits Kheb, where he is presented with the idea of
Ascension . He considers to ascend himself, finally ending his battle against the Goa'uld but in the end decides against this possibility.
Bra'tac visits SGC after Teal'c was brainwashed by Apophis and performs the Ritual of Malshuraan, which would help Teal'c remember his past. Although the two other times he performed it went bad, this time it is a success and Teal'c becomes the old again.
Later in that year Bra'tac meets
Kytano , a charismatic Jaffa leader and together with Teal'c joins forces with him. However it turns out that Kytano is in fact the Goa'uld Imhotep.
At the beginning of this year he visits SGC to tell Teal'c that
Drey'auc is dying and they both visit the camp where Drey'auc however is already dead. When Earth is attacked by
Anubis with an
Ancient weapon, he finds out where it is and, together with Teal'c and Rya'c, goes on a mission to destroy it. Although they are captured in the end the mission is a success.
Later in that year Bra'tac and Teal'c are at the
Alpha Site when an Ashrak attacks the base, where currently Jaffa and
Tok'ra are stationed. The situation between the two groups is very bad and even worsens when Bra'tac is seemingly killed by the Ashrak. However Bra'tac turns out to be alive and in the end its him who kills the Ashrak.
At the end of the season Bra'tac and Teal'c are both badly wounded during a Jaffa meeting and Teal'c has to keep himself and his master alive with only one Goa'uld symbiote. They both survive but now need to take the new drug
Tretonin .
In the next year Bra'tac, together with other Jaffa (among them Rya'c), is captured by still loyal Jaffa and has to work on the prison camp at Erebus. His Tretonin wanes but he is captured in time by SG-1.
Some months later Bra'tac and Teal'c face the new
Kull Warrior s of Anubis and they both go on a mission to destroy them.
At the end of the year Bra'tac visits SGC to warn them that Anubis plans to attack Earth. He then helps SG-1 to find and Ancient weapon and finally watches as Anubis' fleet is destroyed by the Ancient weapon at Antarctica.
At the end of the year Bra'tac and Teal'c convince the other members of the Jaffa Rebellion to attack
Dakara . They are successful in taking over the planet and then defend it against the fleets of
Baal , the
Replicators and Anubis.
After the fall of the Goa'uld, Bra'tac becomes a leader of the new Free Jaffa Nation but still stays loyal to SGC.
