On 11 March 1802 , Highwayman Robert Snooks was Hanged in Boxmoor. Snooks was the last man to be Executed in England for Highway Robbery . His gravestone can still be seen in a remote part of the common land from which the parish takes its name. Originally used for grazing, the moor is now managed by the Box Moor Trust for leisure, recreation and wildlife use. The area has little industry and limited commerce but is in demand for housing for those who work elsewhere in Hemel Hempstead and especially Commuters who use the rail station to reach London in around 30–40 minutes.
