Bourton-on-the-water




Bourton-on-the-Water is a Town in Gloucestershire , England . It is in the picturesque Cotswolds area and is known affectionately as the ''Venice of the Cotswolds''.

It is a very popular tourist destination with a number of well known attractions:

  • The River Windrush runs through the middle of the village, in landscaped setting and is spanned by several small but very attractive road and foot bridges

  • The Model Village is an exact 1:10 replica of Bourton-on-the-Water and even includes a model of the model village itself

  • Birdland

  • The Model Railway

  • The Cotswold Motor Museum (home of Brum )

  • Birdland, which is a collection of a varied selection of birds, from Penguin s through Parrot s to Passerine (perching) birds. Children can feed the large fish. There are regular, hands-on bird-of-prey displays.

  • A maze


Many long distance walks start, finish or just pass through Bourton on the Water. One such route that begins its 100 mile route north is the Heart Of England Way .

Bourton-on-the-Water is an attractive "chocolate-box" village which hosts a large number of visitors, all-year-round. The village of Bourton is actually bigger than the town of Stow-on-the-Wold and has a bigger high-street. Bourton is also home to the The Cotswold School , a co-educational comprehensive school. Bourton has many shops, including family-run shops such as Bourton Model Railway.

Although Bourton is one of the main three towns of the area, it is also arguably the most beautiful.
