GEOGRAPHY


According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 12.9 Km&2 (5.0 Mi&2 ). 12.8 km&2 (4.9 mi&2) of it is land and 0.1 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.00% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 3,940 people, 1,520 households, and 1,167 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 307.3/km&2 (796.4/mi&2). There were 1,628 housing units at an average density of 127.0/km&2 (329.1/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 90.69% White , 1.65% African American , 0.10% Native American , 6.57% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.25% from Other Races , and 0.74% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,520 households out of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.9% were Married Couples living together, 3.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 21.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.84.

In the city the population was spread out with 19.7% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 13.8% from 25 to 44, 39.0% from 45 to 64, and 23.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 52 years. For every 100 females there were 89.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $170,790, and the median income for a family was $200,000. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $52,273 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $104,920. 3.8% of the population and 1.8% of families were below the Poverty Line . 5.3% of those under the age of 18 and 6.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Bloomfield Hills is home to the world renowned Cranbrook Educational Community. Cranbrook is a cornerstone among metropolitan Detroit's cultural offerings, with architecture by famed Art Deco architect Eliel Saarinen . Its art and science museums challenge visitors intellectually and aesthetically. The Academy of Art offers an internationally renowned graduate arts program and is often cited as among the best in the Metropolitan Detroit region. The Cranbrook Kingswood School is one of the finest prepratory schools in the nation.
