Berlin Charter Township is a Charter Township of Monroe County in the U.S. State of Michigan . As of the 2000 Census , the township had a total population of 6,924. COMMUNITIES
GEOGRAPHY According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 96.2 Km&2 (37.1 Mi&2 ). 83.1 km&2 (32.1 mi&2) of it is land and 13.1 km&2 (5.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 13.60% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 6,924 people, 2,511 households, and 1,923 families residing in the township. The Population Density was 83.3/km&2 (215.8/mi&2). There were 2,654 housing units at an average density of 31.9/km&2 (82.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the township was 97.11% White , 0.49% African American , 0.33% Native American , 0.07% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander , 0.58% from Other Races , and 1.40% from two or more races. 1.43% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 2,511 households out of which 35.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.7% were Married Couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.4% were non-families. 18.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.15. In the township the population was spread out with 26.6% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 106.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.6 males. The median income for a household in the township was $57,403, and the median income for a family was $64,071. Males had a median income of $48,431 versus $27,568 for females. The Per Capita Income for the township was $23,898. 5.6% of the population and 2.9% of families were below the Poverty Line . 7.6% of those under the age of 18 and 5.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. |
