HISTORY The BBWAA was formed on October 14, 1908 {Link without Title} , in order to help improve the working conditions for sportswriters, who often had to deal with being crowded out of the pressbox, being regulated to the furthest seats from the field, and being forced to write in inclement weather. In 1910 , the New York teams ( The New York Giants , New York Highlanders , and the Brooklyn Dodgers ) began requiring persons wishing to enter the pressbox to be members of the BBWAA. As a result, membership in the organization increased substantially. AWARDS VOTING The BBWAA is responsible for voting on several awards annually.
