Barry Gibb CBE (born '''Barry Alan Crompton Gibb''' on 1 September 1946 in Douglas, Isle Of Man ) is a singer, songwriter, producer and the lead singer with his two brothers in the band the Bee Gees . EARLY LIFE In 1958 his family moved to Brisbane , Australia, settling in one of the city's poorest suburbs, Cribb Island , which was subsequently obliterated to make way for Brisbane Airport . CAREER AS SINGER/SONGWRITER It was in Brisbane that he and his brothers twins Robin and Maurice , formed the Bee Gees , which is considered one of the most successful pop groups of all time. During their five decade career, they have sold more than 187 million records. As a songwriter, he had 5 of his songs in the U.S. top 10 at the same time in 1978. Gibb's songs have also been recorded by a long list of other well-known singers and continue to be used by other artists. Gibb also wrote songs for Samantha Sang ("Emotion," which was also a US and UK Top 10 hit years later for Destiny's Child ), Dionne Warwick ("Heartbreaker"), and Lulu ("Let Me Wake Up In Your Arms"). Gibb has produced 16 number one hits for the Bee Gees and other artists, including Barbra Streisand (Woman in Love), Frankie Valli (Grease), Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton (Islands in the Stream), and Diana Ross (Chain Reaction). In 1984, he released his first solo album, " Now Voyager ." He also released a full length " Now Voyager " video. In 1994, Gibb was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame .
