BIOGRAPHY

  • Position: Defense

  • Height: 6' 0" / 183 cm

  • Weight: 209 lbs / 95 kg

  • Shoots: Left

  • Drafted: St. Louis ' first round selection, 17th overall, on June 26 , 1999 .

In the 2002-2003 season he finished with a plus 23 rating and the highest average ice time per game for all NHL Rookie s. Jackman is not much of an offensive threat, but his sound positioning, steady puck handling, and strong physical play more than make up for it. Jackman won the Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) in 2003 , narrowly beating out the Detroit Red Wings ' Henrik Zetterberg , a forward; stay-at-home defencemen like Jackman rarely win any of the NHL's annually given achievement trophies (such as the Calder), thus demonstrating his considerable skill at his position.

Jackman was sidelined by a chronic disolcated shoulder during much of the 2003-2004 NHL season, and thus played in only 15 games that season; a somewhat disappointing follow-up to his steller rookie year.

When the NHL was been locked out Jackman stayed in St. Louis and played for the Missouri River Otters . He returned to the Blues for the 2005-2006 season where he was made one of the team captains (he wore an "A" on his shoulder all season). He played the better part of the season - one of the worst in Blues history - still sidelined with injuries for 20 games, including the final weeks. Through the 2005-2006 season, Jackman has 8 goals and 24 assists, good for 32 points.
