Bardot was an Australian Pop group and winners of the first Australian series of Popstars in 2000 . The group remains the most successful winning act of all four Australian seasons, achieving two successful albums and six consecutive hit singles in their two and a half years together. POPSTARS Bardot evolved from a highly successful (and only the second ever, following New Zealand) series of Popstars , a TV talent show which promised to create "Australia's very own Spice Girls ". In addition, the winning group would be sponsored by the Austereo radio network, New Idea magazine and Warner Music records. Millions of viewers watched as thousands of girls from across the country auditioned, hoping to fulfill their dream of one day breaking into the music industry. After numerous rounds of singing and dancing workshops, Sophie Monk , Sally Polihronas , Belinda Chapple, Katie Underwood and Chantelle Barry were chosen to form what would become Australia's highest-selling female pop group, Bardot (named after French actress Brigitte Bardot .) However, during the early course of the show, due to mysterious circumstances, Chantelle was asked to leave the group and would be replaced by Tiffany Wood (now Tiffani Wood ). In a recent interview on Australia's Channel 7 TV series 'Where Are They Now' (February 2006), Chantelle Barry spoke publicly for the first time over her removal from the group. She claims she accidentally kept Sophie Monk's money allowance with the intention of giving back to her but forgot and this is why she was forced to leave the group. SUCCESS The Bardot phenomenon was massive with the group breaking the record for becoming the first Australian act to debut at the #1 position for both its debut single, Poison, and self titled debut album. Further singles I Should've Never Let You Go and These Days continued the girls string of gold status, Top 20 hits and the group embarked on its first national tour. Bardot's amazing live performance of These Days at the 2000 ARIA Awards gained them much praise and proved the girls were more than just "pretty faces". The group traveled the world promoting their music in the UK, Asia Pacific, India and New Zealand, achieving positive results in these markets. In mid 2001, after promotion and recording in the UK and a member less (Katie Underwood), the group re-established themselves as a four-piece with the release of ASAP, the first single from their forthcoming second album. This time around, Bardot had greater control over its music and image, resulting in a more confident and sophisticated feel. ASAP continued their chart success, peaking Top 5. Following single, the disco-tastic I Need Somebody confirmed the groups staying power, again peaking Top 5 and becoming the girls biggest hit since 'Poison'. The bands second album, Play It Like That received critical acclaim upon release, debuting at #16, achieving gold status. Final single, the mid-tempo ballad Love Will Find A Way completed Bardot's string of consecutive Top 20 hits peaking at #18. The group embarked on its second national tour with Human Nature before deciding to 'call it day'. When the group announced its decision to split in April 2002, fans were devastated and this was evident at their final public concert, perfomed at Channel V , when Tiffani and fans broke into tears, sad at the realisation that it was all coming to an end. SOLO CAREERS In May 2003, Sophie Monk released her debut solo album '' Calendar Girl '' which featured the hits Inside Outside, Get The Music On and One Breath Away, became the face of numerous brands including Vanilla Diet Coke and Ezpozay Swimwear and has starred in the 'Always' music clip for rock band Blink 182 .
